Bangalore Palace

Spread over 60 acres of land, the majestic white building is home to the State Legislature and the Secretariat of Karnataka. Attara Kacheri Building

Right opposite the white marvel of Vidhana Soudha stands the red colored Attara Kacheri Building. The neoclassical style building built in the year 1867 now houses the Karnataka High Court. A British civil servant in India, Mr. Lewin Bentham Bowring who served as the commissioner of Mysore (from 1862 to 1870) visualized and planned the construction of the building. Visit to Tipu Sultan’s Palace
Legendary Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan’s summer home, the palace in Bangalore was originally built in mud by Kempe Gowda, a local chieftain in 1537. Later it was rebuilt in stone centuries later by Haider Ali, further upgraded by his son Tipu Sultan. Glimpses from his reign can be found in the two storeyed ornate structure in wood. As beautiful gardens surround the palace, the interiors are decorated with intricate floral motifs and paintings highlighting the historic events and battles. A museum on the ground acts as a doorway into the lives of Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan. Managed by the Archaeological Survey of India, the museum has some historic paintings, one over 200 years old showcasing the storming of Srirangapatna. The summer palace is open between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on all days. Situated about 133 ksm from the main city, there are many buses and taxis that can take you to the palace and nearby areas like Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Ranganatha Temple, Nimishamba Temple etc
Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens
One of the oldest botanical gardens in India, Lal Bagh located in south Bangalore attracts many tourists being the first of its kind. The garden spread over an area of 240 acres was constructed by renowned ruler Hyder Ali. It was finally completed by his son- Tipu Sultan- who was inspired by the gardens of Sira in Tumkur District in Karnataka. Even to this day many visit the gardens to witness the planned routes, glasshouses and flowers blooming across the area. Some excotic flowers from countries like France, Persia, Arabia and Afghanistan can be found here. Trees personally imported by the Sultan during that time further add to the beauty of the garden. There is also a large lake in the southern part along with a mini waterfall and a mesmerizing Bonsai Garden that are worth seeing at the garden. There are many seasonal events and shows organized at the garden that let you truly enjoy the beautiful splendour. The gardens are open daily from 6:00 am to 7:00 PM. Entry is free during early morning and late evening (6 to 9 am and 6 to 7 pm). A nominal entry fee applies during the day time.
