Finally Jaipur Gets the UNESCO World Heritage Tag, The Pink City of India

The very famous Pink City of India which is none other than Jaipur makes its grand entry into the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. It is really extremely good news for the Indians. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already expressed his happiness regarding the same.

This was the Tweet from UNESCO on Saturday afternoon and it said all that India has to cheer for.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed his happiness by tweeting

“Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valour. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur’s hospitality draws people from all over. Glad that this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by @UNESCO”.

This announcement of the inclusion of Jaipur was made by the committee of the UNESCO World Heritage after the 43rd Session which was underway at Baku from the 30th of June 2019 to 10th of July 2019. This decision to include Jaipur was done after the committee examined the nomination for the inclusion of the Pink City into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Walled City and the Pink City of Jaipur are quite popular among tourists from not only India but also from all around the world. Jaipur, a city of the Indian state of Rajasthan which also happens to be the capital of the state is extremely popular due to its iconic architectural legacy along with its vibrant culture. The city has a deep connection to history and with its superb architecture and rich culture make it one of the most perfect destinations of tourists from all over the world.

One of the senior officials from The International Council on Monuments and Sites had come form inspecting the city in the year 2018 after its nomination. He also stated that the World Heritage Committee in Baku examined this nomination and ultimately added Jaipur in its list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Under Sawai Jai Singh II’s patronage, the historic Pink City was founded in the year 1727 AD.  The Office of UNESCO at New Delhi previously said that Jaipur was proposed for the nomination because of its value of being a trendsetter in development in town planning as well as architecture which clearly demonstrates the perfect blend and a great exchange of the ideas prevailing the medieval period. In addition to this, the office at New Delhi also mentioned that the town planning of Jaipur clearly indicates an interchange of Mughal, ancient Hindu, and contemporary Western ideas.

In an addition to this, the city of Jaipur is a classic example of a trade town in South East Asia in the medieval period which defined a number of new and innovative concepts for the purpose of thriving trade as well as a commercial hub. Moreover, the walled city of Jaipur has achieved national as well as international acclamation in the form of crafts that are associated with living traditions.

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee consists of the representatives of a total of 21 Parties of States to the World Heritage Convention who goes for an annual meet. This particular committee is vested with the responsibility of implementing the Convention. As per UNESCO, till today, there are a total of 1092 sites spread in 167 countries throughout the world that has been inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites. So, it is quite clear as to how proud it is a moment for India especially the state of Rajasthan and the Pink City of Jaipur.
