Journey of a lifetime…

Joy ride by Ambassador Car at Jaipur

Overview

The Hindustan Ambassador was an automobile manufactured by Hindustan Motors of India from 1958 to 2014, with various improvements and changes introduced throughout its production period. The Ambassador was based on the Morris Oxford Series III model, which was first produced by Morris Motors Limited at Cowley, Oxford, in the United Kingdom from 1956 to 1959.

Despite its British origins, the Ambassador became a definitive Indian car and was fondly known as the “King of Indian Roads.” The automobile was manufactured by Hindustan Motors at its Uttarpara plant near Kolkata, West Bengal.

The Ambassador remained in continuous production for decades, with relatively few major improvements or changes. Hindustan Motors gradually expanded its manufacturing capabilities and produced several models and utility vehicles over the years.

The Ambassador eventually attained legendary status in India. Even after production ended, the Landmaster and early Mark models gained renewed interest among classic-car enthusiasts, with many being restored to their former glory. Original petrol-engine models are particularly sought after, and the Ambassador is widely regarded as an iconic Indian classic car.

A ride in an Ambassador car from the airport or railway station to your hotel, or during a sightseeing tour, offers a truly unique experience. Explore the Pink City of Jaipur in this iconic Indian automobile and travel back in time while discovering its magnificent heritage and architecture.
