Introduction:
Built in 1930 by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh 11 of Jaipur as a lodge for his hunting tripsto the jungles of Ranthambore which were the favorite hunting grounds of the Royal family of Jaipur.Kota and Bikaner are the two cities between which Sawai Madhopur issituated and its also situated inbetween the Aravalli Ranges and Vindhyachal range.The region around Sawai Madhopur is thick with remnants of its past history. Sawai Madhopur is the gateway to the world renowned Ranthambhore National Park, the famous 'Tiger Reserve appx. 14 kms.away from the district.

History:
Govinda the grandson of Prithviraj Chauhan has won Ranthambore in the 13th century A.D and ruled as feudatory of the Sultan of Delhi.The Muslim conquest brought about major changes in the political map of northern India. In Rajasthan, the Chauhan kingdoms of sapadalaksa and Nodal dis-appeared, Govinda the grandson of Prithviraj Chauhan established himself at Ranthambhore and ruled as feudatory of the Sultan of Delhi. Following disturbances after the death of Iltutmish, Vagbhatta besieged the fort of Ranthambhore.Sawai - Madhopur Moving on from the desert kingdom of Jodhpur,
